Horse training Faq and Product Selection
A little about Horse Training: Do you think your horse is already trained? In our experience, over 90% of the horses that owners thought were well mannered and trained weren’t, they just hadn’t been asked to do anything and therefore hadn’t revealed their true self. In addition most owners, even experience riders had no idea how to properly train a horse. Horse training is the simple concept of understanding when to apply pressure and more importantly when to stop applying pressures… take this simple test – you and your horse are getting ready to ride. You open up a box and pull out a bag of chips to include with lunch later on. Your horse spooks over the noise and movement of the bag and you immediately take it away. What did you just train your horse to do… you trained the horse that when they get scared the spooky item will go away, so next time do the same thing to get rid of it. Ok, now you climb on your horse and he stiffens up and acts up a bit. You immediately gain control of the situation by tightening up on the reins. The horse stiffens up more, raises his head and acts worse. You then tighten the reins more and maintain your balance as the horse jigs around by grabbing the saddle or mane and in the process you loosen the tension on the reins as you try to maintain your balance. What did you just teach your horse? You taught the horst that if I put pressure on your mouth and you don’t like it - just act up even more and I’ll remove the pressure. Is that what you wanted to accomplish? The training techniques Clinton provides will take you through extensive and detailed exercises to teach you how to properly approach horse training. Why do I solely endorse Clinton Anderson products? Because I started horse training just like everyone else. I purchased a lot of items that really didn’t show me how to train my horse… I found my horse never acted like the horse in the video and I simply didn’t know what to do. Folks, I got tired of watching trainers use already trained horses as they told you to break down a task into small steps… the small steps weren’t ever defined well enough for me to successfully apply the concept on my own horse. In addition, the products I purchased rarely told me what do when my horse didn’t cooperate. I solely endorse Clinton Anderson because he’s the only trainer that I found success with, it’s that simple. What Clinton Anderson does is break the lesson into steps that you’ll understand. First he’ll describe what you will be doing and why… the why part is very important because if you don’t understand why then you’ll not understand when to use the concept and more importantly when to stop. Remember, horse training is often about when to stop doing something more than it is about when to start and you’ll fully understand this after viewing these products. Clinton will then demonstrate the lesson using a trained horse so you can see the goal. And now here’s the good part, in several of his products he’ll use different untrained horses to show you how your horse will react when the lesson is performed and you’ll be surprised with what they and your horse will do as you take control for the first time. In the Ground Series he’ll use a jumpy sensitive horse and a dull lazy horse which each require different techniques. Did you know the lazy quiet horse is more dangerous? Clinton will follow up each lesson with a troubleshooting review where he’ll show you what most trainers will do wrong as they try to do this for the first time and he’ll also explain the mistakes most horses will make and how to correct them. This is truly like having a personalize trainer and it works. If your horse spooks, bolts, rears, bites, kicks, crowds into your space, walks on top of you, pins their ears at feeding time, runs away, turns their butt towards you, want lunge on a loose line, want move their front and rear end independently, want ride on loose reins, and want soften, collect and yield to the lightest touch then you need the help of these training products. Simply put, If you can’t ride your horse with loose reins at all speeds then you’re not in control and your horse is taking you for a ride… it’s only a matter of time until you will be presented with a dangerous situation where you’ll quickly learn the true and uncontrolled nature of your horse… better to get control now using these concepts in a safer and controlled environment. Stop reinforcing bad habits that will just make your horse spookier, duller, and harder to control -- learn to train correctly. Where should you start your training? If you don’t have a round pen then I recommend you start with the Gaining Respect series one and two. A Round Pen is not needed to use these techniques; the round pen would simply make it a little easier and faster to obtain the desired goal. If you have access to a round pen, then I recommend you start with the Round Penning DVD. Foal Season is coming, now what? The Handling Foals set is a large DVD set that fully explains how to train the newborn, weanling, and yearling and also tells how to safely handle that mare. What about breaking a horse to ride? The ”Starting Colt Under Saddle” will show you exactly what you need to do to break that new colt or that wild mustang and will take you from the first touch to the 15th ride. The Riding with Confidence Series (one and two) will take you to new grounds with your horse under saddle. Also available is advanced training to teach “Leads and Lead Changes”. Correcting Problems on the Trail is an excellent set to tell you how to handle those problems when your actually riding away from your barn.
